Our Landscape Design Process: What Happens After That First Call?

How We Turn “I Need Help With My Yard” Into a Plan You’re Pumped About

You’ve been staring at your yard thinking, "We should really do something about this." You finally make the call—and boom, you’ve taken the first step toward a yard you actually want to spend time in.

But then what?

Here’s what to expect when you work with us—step-by-step, no mystery.

Step 1: The Call That Starts It All

A small white house with a wooden door, surrounded by lush green tropical plants. Stone path leads through a gravel garden under blue sky.

This isn’t some formal consultation with clipboards and contracts. It’s a quick phone call where we get to know you, your space, and what you’re hoping for.

We’ll ask things like:

  • What’s bothering you about the yard right now?

  • What do you wish you could do outside?

  • Do you have a timeline or budget in mind?

You don’t need to have all the answers—just a starting point. We’ll also give you a general idea of how the process works, what our design plans cost, and when we’re booking. If it feels like a good fit, we’ll schedule a site meeting.

Step 2: The Site Meeting – Where It All Starts to Click

Two landscapers stand near a dirtpile, under palm trees. A metal mesh roll and shovels are visible, in a sunny outdoor setting.

This is where things start getting real. We come out to your property, walk the space with you, and dive deeper into what you’re hoping to create.

Here’s what happens during the meeting:

  • We walk and talk. You show us the problem areas, the potential, and what you’ve been dreaming about.

  • We go over what we call the Big 3:

    • Style – What kind of aesthetic are you drawn to? Modern? Natural? Coastal? Something a little bold?

    • Use – Do you want a place to host, garden, relax, entertain kids, cook outside, or all of the above?

    • Budget – What are you planning to invest? We’ll help you understand what’s realistic for your space and priorities.

  • We answer your questions. How long will it take? When can we start? What does payment look like? What if we want to make changes? We’re an open book!

  • We take site measurements, photos, and notes. This is the info that fuels your design file and makes sure the plan fits your space like a glove.

  • We send a landscape plan estimate. A few days after the meeting, you’ll get a clear breakdown of the design cost and what comes next.

By the time we leave, you’ll feel like there’s a clear direction. Most people say this is the moment it goes from “someday” to “let’s do this.”

Step 3: Our Landscape Design Process – How the Plan Comes Together

Wooden deck next to pebbles and lush green grass, showing contrasting textures and natural colors in an outdoor setting.

Once you’re ready to move forward, we dive into our landscape design process—custom-tailored to your space, your style, and how you want to use your yard.

The custom landscape plan includes:

  • A layout with zones for lounging, dining, gardening—whatever you want

  • A plant palette that makes sense for your style, sun exposure, and maintenance level

  • Hardscape ideas like walkways, patios, built-in seating, and more

  • Real talk on materials, lighting, and what we’d do if it were our yard

You’ll have a chance to review, give feedback, and make changes before we finalize the plan.

Step 4: Let’s Build Something Awesome

Landscaper kneeling on gravel, planting a green pot by a white building with tiled roof. Overcast sky and greenery in the background.

Once your plan is dialed in, we’ll prep a detailed installation estimate based on the final design. That way, you know exactly what the build will cost before we break ground—no surprises.

From there, our install team handles everything—from demo to irrigation to final plant placement. You’ll know who’s showing up, what’s happening each day, and when we expect to wrap.

And if you catch us scarfing burritos at lunchtime, just know it’s part of the magic.

Your Yard Could Be Next

Modern backyard with a pool, hot tub, and white house. Stools at a counter, green lawn, palm trees, and partly cloudy sky in the background.

We’ve been doing this long enough to know: homeowners usually don’t need help imagining a better yard—they need help getting there.

If that’s where you’re at, we’ve got you.
